To celebrate the re-opening of the newly extended Community Centre, the Maghaberry Community Association organised a week long programme of events at the beginning of September. All the activities organised were well attended and the Community Association would like to thank all those who came along to support us and also to all the volunteers who helped to make it all possible.
The week started with an open evening where all the clubs and groups that use the centre were invited to come along and see the facilities and to display what is available in the centre.
On Tuesday night there was a 6-a-side football tournament on the MUGA pitches. We had 14 teams competing and after a superb night, the overall winners were Broomhedge FC. Second place went to Lower Maze FC and in third place was Glenavy FC. Many thanks to all the teams who came and we hope you all had a great night.
Wednesday night was our treasure hunt and car wash which turned out to be a great night’s craic. Our winners on the night were Sara Jayne Humpherson & Sarah Marshall Law. Well done to all.
On Thursday it was the turn of the kids to get involved at the kids disco with our own DJ ‘Cool Cat’ Crothers showing all the kids her groovy moves!!!
On Friday evening, our Annual Maghaberry Fun Run and Barbeque took place, which was once again very well attended by the whole community. Well done to all those who took part and congratulations to our overall winner Robert Winchester and also to our youngest competitor to cross the line,Toby Smith.
To finish off the week the Community Centre hosted a charity quiz and curry night, which was organised by Helen Reddick and Sara Jayne Humpherson. The new sports hall was packed with over 180 quizzers, in what proved to be a brilliant night for everyone who came to support the event. A grand total of £2,400 was raised for the nominated charities of Alzheimers Research/The Alzheimers Society and Epilespy Research. Helen & Sara Jayne would like to thank everyone who took part and special thanks to the quiz master Tracey Crothers, our DJ Simon Hylands, all the volunteers who helped on the night and finally all the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle.
